Jim Rickoff Announces Retirement

Wow, what a ride I’ve been on since joining this industry back in 1984. Coming out of college with an Industrial Arts degree and business administration minor, then joining the Goodson Shop Supplies crew in tech service. Becoming the sales manager one year later at Goodson and then serving on the Board of Directors at AERA. My world really changed in 1999 when I went to work at AERA in Marketing. Now, ending my career as President/CEO of AERA for the past 16 years — Priceless!

I’ve been so blessed to have worked with so many smart and talented people, especially at AERA. The team we’ve built and the bond I have with them is so rewarding. Together, we reshaped the whole association by building:

  • Prosis Pro – AERA’s online engine specification software program features over 16,000 engines and is growing by 1000 engines per year.
  • Online Engine Machinist Training/Certification Program with soon-to-be-released High Performance Engine Machining and also in the works, a Heavy-Duty Engine Machining program – these are the only engine rebuilding online training programs available in the world.
  • Engine Professional magazine – our industry’s leading publication, filled with application-driven articles written by true engine professionals distributed worldwide.
  • EREF (Engine Rebuilders Educational Foundation) establishes scholarships and awards grants to those who desire training in engine rebuilding.
  • Tech & Skills Conferences, Custom Training, Webinars, Podcasts, Technical Manuals along with five Full-Time Tech Specialists dedicated to getting you the information you need, when you need it. Truly, AERA is “The Source for Information”.

It took a team of professionals to put together these benefits and programs. Again, I am so proud of my team and our accomplishments. We’ve built a strong trade association that provides real value to its members. Thank you to every one of them, you simply are the best.

In addition, I’d like to thank Scott Wichlacz, past board chairman for his vision that changes needed to be made. I’d like to thank Dwayne Dugas, another past board chairman who supported me for making this change happen, and Randy Neal for always pushing me to do more and be better. These three industry leaders have made a difference in my life and this association’s success. Last but certainly not least, I want to thank our members, both Active and Associate Members, for years of financial support. You are the reason we exist.

Officially, I will be retiring from my President/CEO position effective June 30, 2026. However, I will remain as an advisor and special projects coordinator for a period to be determined.

Now, it is with great pleasure to announce that 30-year AERA veteran Steve Fox will be taking the lead as your new President/CEO. Steve is such a familiar face at AERA, the transition will be seamless.

Joining Steve will be Amanda Goyette as Vice President/Corporate Secretary along with Vice President of Tech Services Chuck Lynch; the Tech Service Team of Rob Munro, Brian Roberts, Andy Kennedy, and Francisco Aristizabal; Karen Tendering in Membership Services; Graphic Designer Maria Beyerstedt; Ron McMorris in Ad Sales; and Technical Editors Mike Mavrigian and Steve Scott.

I couldn’t be prouder of this team. The job they have done to get us this far is truly amazing. They will lead us into the next chapter and I have no doubt it will be great!

For me, spending more time with Miss Lynda, working my dogs, hunting, fishing and chasing grandbabies sounds like a lot of fun!

Again, thank you for your support!
