The 2006 E85 Power Shootout
was an unquestionable success!

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 31 - Sept. 1, 2006) — Six teams competed for top honors in this engine dynamometer competition which showcased their ability to employ unique skill sets to maximize a prescribed formula for engine performance: Ed's Automotive from Abilene, Texas; Grawmondbecks from Mason City, Iowa; Minnesota State University from Mankato, Minnesota; Pan American Automotive from Pharr, Texas; University of Northwestern Ohio from Lima, Ohio; and Yankton Automotive from Yankton, South Dakota.

Engine performance was measured by taking average horsepower and average torque and dividing by the cubic inch of the engine. E85 fuel was required and provided by AERA at the show.

The competition started just after the show opened on Wednesday, August 30. During the first day of competition, each team had approximately one hour of prep, tuning and dyno time. This was a "test and tune" day for the competitors to sort out any problems that may occur before the competition began on Thursday.

The top two teams on Thursday were Grawmondbecks and Yankton Automotive. These two teams advanced to the finals on Friday.

The first place winner of $5000 (sponsored by Engine Builder Magazine) was Grawmondbecks from Mason City, Iowa. The second place winner of $2500 (sponsored by the RPM show) was Yankton Automotive from Yankton, South Dakota. The third place winner of $1500 (sponsored by Meridian One) was Ed's Automotive from Abilene, Texas.

Special thanks to all of the E85 Power Shootout sponsors - Engine Builder Magazine, Meridian One, Clevite Engine Parts, Goodson Shop Supplies, Stuska Dynometers and Soundmaster - as well as all the participants for helping make this event a huge success!
